Hematite is a kind of iron oxide ore, the main component is Fe2O3, it is dark red, the specific gravity is about 5.26, and it contains 70% Fe and 30% O. It is the most important iron ore. Primary hematite contains impurities, and its grade is difficult to reach the best standard for smelting. Therefore, it is necessary to use the method and equipment of beneficiation to purify it to increase the iron content to the smelting standard.

The nature of hematite is more complex, so the process of beneficiation of hematite has a great relationship with its nature. Under normal circumstances, hematite beneficiation methods are mainly gravity beneficiation, strong magnetic separation, magnetic roasting, flotation, etc., but the most commonly used hematite beneficiation method is gravity beneficiation. The hematite gravity beneficiation production line has the following advantages: small equipment investment, low production cost, high beneficiation efficiency, and no pollution to the environment.

Hematite Gravity Beneficiation Process

These are hematite processing sites for customers of Forui Machinery Factory:

The hematite gravity beneficiation production line uses a jigging machine as the core beneficiation equipment. The function of the jigging machine is to separate minerals with different proportions. The specific gravity of iron minerals is generally greater than that of the accompanying gangue, especially for coarse-grained hematite. After crushing and sieving, the hematite can reach the particle size after monomer dissociation, and the specific gravity of iron mineral is obviously greater than that of gangue, so a better beneficiation effect can be obtained on the jig.

The equipment that composes the gravity beneficiation production line together with the jig also includes a crusher. Generally, hematite is crushed twice, a simple and practical jaw crusher is used for the coarse crushing process, and hammer crushing or cone crushing is selected for the fine crushing process according to the situation. The crushed materials enter the circular vibrating screen for screening, and the materials that meet the particle size requirements enter the jig for gravity beneficiation.

The jig machine separates the minerals of different specific gravity, and the light and heavy minerals are discharged out of the machine separately and enter the dewatering screen for dehydration. The dehydrated concentrate and tailings can be directly transported to the destination site for storage. This is the working process of the entire hematite gravity separation production line. It is not only simple, practical, easy to operate, but also energy-saving, high-efficiency, and pollution-free. It is the most ideal method for beneficiation of coarse-grained hematite.

According to the size of the grain size of hematite in the ore, the beneficiation process of hematite can also be divided into the following aspects.

1. Coarse-grained hematite beneficiation

Coarse-grained hematite refers to the particle size of iron minerals embedded in the ore above 2mm. This type of hematite is easy to extract and generally adopts ore washing, gravity beneficiation, dry or wet strong magnetic separation and other beneficiation methods for beneficiation.

Forui Machinery once provided a complete set of coarse-grained hematite beneficiation technology and equipment for a beneficiation plant in Xinjiang. Among the ore processed by this concentrator, 80% of iron-bearing minerals are soft red earthy hematite, and the rest are hard black crystalline hematite. The raw ore contains 42% iron. The hematite is easily separated from the gangue and enters the jigger for gravity beneficiation after crushing and screening. After washing, jigging, and spiral beneficiation of this type of hematite ore, 49% of the mixed concentrate is obtained, with a recovery rate of over 90%. The iron ore processed by a concentrator in Inner Mongolia is a mixture of high-grade iron ore and gangue, containing 40-50% iron. After ore washing, jigging and spiral beneficiation, a mixed concentrate containing 59% iron is obtained.

2. Medium-particle hematite beneficiation

Medium-grained hematite refers to the ore with a particle size of 0.3-2mm embedded in the ore, and it is also a relatively easy-to-select hematite ore. The main methods for processing this type of iron ore at home and abroad are gravity beneficiation and magnetized roasting. According to the current domestic beneficiation technology and gravity beneficiation equipment, this type of hematite can be easily beneficiated. Only need to crush, screen and wash the raw ore, and then enter the gravity beneficiation equipment such as jigger, spiral concentrator, etc. to obtain the ideal concentrate grade. This type of hematite can also be beneficiated by the method of magnetization roasting, but the investment in magnetization roasting equipment is huge, and the cost of beneficiation is also relatively high. Generally, small-scale concentrators do not recommend using the method of magnetization roasting to treat medium-particle hematite.

3. Fine-grained hematite beneficiation

Fine-grained hematite refers to iron ore with a particle size of 0.2-0.043mm embedded in the ore. According to the genesis of the deposit, this kind of hematite is mostly a sedimentary lithologic iron deposit, such as iron flint, iron quartzite and so on. In the currently proven reserves of weakly magnetic iron ore, this type of ore accounts for a larger proportion. The reserves of weakly magnetic iron ore in my country are in the middle, most of which are fine-grained and fine-grained weakly magnetic iron ore. Fine-grained hematite is generally regarded as refractory iron ore. The methods for processing this type of iron ore at home and abroad include roasting-magnetic separation, flotation, gravity separation, strong magnetic separation, and a combination of multiple processes. Among them, roasting-magnetic separation and flotation are more widely used.

The roasting-magnetic separation method is a relatively mature method for processing fine-grained hematite. However, due to its high infrastructure investment and production costs, as well as the rapid development of other beneficiation technologies, the new roasting of hematite at home and abroad- There are very few magnetic separation plants.

Our factory once provided a full set of hematite beneficiation equipment for Xinjiang hematite beneficiation plant. The customer’s hematite ore grade is 32%, and it is processed through a jaw crusher coarse crushing -> cone crushing fine crushing -> vibrating screen screening -> trapezoidal jig gravity beneficiation -> dewatering screen dewatering process. The grade of the concentrate after beneficiation is 56%-58%, the recovery rate is 88%, and all the beneficiation indicators have reached the expected requirements, and have been highly recognized by customers.
